Get money culture vs Money isn’t important [video] montage with breakdown.

Hello beautiful people!

I know I haven’t posted in a while but I have actually been putting up creative pieces elsewhere online.

One of my creative passions is videography. Although i haven’t been out making films recently I have been keeping my creative juices flowing by putting some edits up on my youtube page.

I love watching and making montages. So i’ve been practicing creating them.

I will start with the most recent one I uploaded.

If you read my posts such as who is I? you will know I like to get philosophical.

I love to listen to Alan Watts lectures. I sometimes fall asleep just listening to a 2 hour lecture and somewhere the line between thought and the dream world disappears.

Here is the video I made with a description of the creative idea behind it afterwards.

(If the video is blocked in your country you can watch it here via my facebook page)

Inspiration

So I was listening to his lecture about ‘why money rules your life‘.

As I listen to this deeper philosophical way of thinking there is another part of my mind that grew up ingrained in the ‘hip hop and grime’ get money culture. I mean that in reference to the lifestyle, the strive for more, making it rain, the people with the newest clothes being cool at school, all of that.

Even away from music it’s just around us in general as part of the capitalist system we are apart of. So you have game shows like who wants to be a millionaire where the goal is literally to reach a financial goal.

No mans land

So on my journey into exploring the minimalist, ‘what if money were no object’ lifestyles I am also in the reality of needing money to get by, being inspired by artists like Meek mill in their rags to riches songs. Ace hood – hustle hard for example where he raps about times getting hard and he’s going to word hard and make as much money as possible to provide for his family.

So between the two there is this no mans land, this place where you are in both mind states.

Creative Idea

So my aim was to show this clash of realities.

The Instrumental Wu Tang Clan – Cream literally saying ‘ Cash rules everything around me, get the money’.

Then I put audio vs the visual as Watts speaks about his money isn’t important idea you see Lil Wayne making it rain (Throwing money in the air) in a bank and people running to grab the money.

I even went a little bit deeper into information i have acquired over time such as the history of money, paper notes just being an I.O.U and money not actually being ‘worth’ anything.

So I hope that gave you a bit of an insight into the ideas behind that video. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Peace and have a great week.

Make it about the work – Obama Motivation (Hony)

Putting politics aside, lets focus on a man and his journey for a moment. I never expected there would be a day when Barack Obama would tell a motivational story with inspirational soundbites which would touch me so much and really … Continue reading

The day he learnt about money (Short story)

“Is this still?”

I looked up from behind the counter engrossed in my cleaning duties to see a young Spanish boy eyes wide open, awaiting my answer.

‘£1.60’ I replied, not realising what the actual question had been.

‘Still??’ He asked again.

‘Yes’ I nodded reassuringly.

Digging his hands down into the pockets of his light blue jeans he gathered together some coins.

With a nervous nod he handed me over the grand sum of 10 pence.

‘Oh, its a little bit more’ I said with a comforting smile.

The smile wasn’t neutral.

I’m not sure  how much he valued that 10 pence to be worth but his face changed to one of bewilderment and horror.

I pointed at his still open hand, where he held a £1 and 50 pence piece.

The young man slowly looked at his hand, then back at me with a facial expression which suggested I just told him that father Christmas doesn’t exist.

Reluctantly he handed me the 50 pence.

Still smiling I pointed at his hand once more

This time he seemed to almost challenge me in his state of confusion.

If an expression could speak, at this moment his would be saying something like

‘Hey Mister, I know you are older than me and everything but are you really sure you have got this right?’

He handed me the remaining £1. This time his eyes patrolled my hand as I took the £1 from his palm and watched as I dropped it into the till, all the while with the facial expression of a child watching you eat a sweet you just offered them.

I gave him his receipt and he ran over to his mother and sister.

I hear female laughter a few moments later as they both look down at him.

‘Diez?!’ I hear them say in unison. (which is ten in Spanish).

When he received that £1.60  he probably thought that he was going to buy all of the sweets he could eat and play as many arcade games as he could get through on his fun day out in London.

Lo siento mi amigo.

Lo siento.
